So we’re five days into year 2017. My kids are still at their grandparents so I have time to remember all that happened last year and think at a 2017 resolution list.

So how did 2016 end?

  • I changed my job. After 10 years it was time for a change of scenery. During all this time I’ve seen the company growing up, people growing old, getting married, having kids, moving to other countries, cities, companies, coming back. There are projects I’m found of, clients that I’m proud I had the chance to work for, technical people that I loved working with.

  • I launched my blog. I bought the domain several years ago and tried MojoPortal and DNN as CMSes. I couldn’t find a proper way of keeping the customizations under source control plus they are too heavy for a simple blog ( with many possible security holes). But it was fun studying them.

  • More gadgets. I now have a ZyXEL NSA325 v2 network storage; a new Samsung Ace 4 phone; a new Garmin VivoSmart HR fitness bracelet; some Raspberry Zero kits and parts from thepihut.com and 2x8Gb SODIMMs for my HP Probook laptop.

  • Even more Lego Duplo sets.

What did I do on New Year’s Eve?

Played Stardew Valley on OpenSUSE 42.1. Did you know it was made by a single developer in C#? I lost a couple of nights to this game…

What are my resolutions on 2017?

  1. New content on my blog on a weekly basis.

  2. Complete blog styling; add missing features (especially comments section) and move it from github hosting in order to support SSL.

  3. Read a technical book every month. I have a year subscription to Packtpub’s online library so I should make the best of it.

  4. Complete stylecop plugin changes for latest SonarQube versions (6+).

  5. Study .NET Core and SQL Server on linux.

  6. Learn Raspberry Pi programming.

  7. Take longer outdoors breaks from #1 to #6 activities

A story has no beginning or end: arbitrarily one chooses that moment of experience from which to look back or from which to look ahead.
